How the number is built
Each NIE reads as one opening letter — X, Y or Z — then seven figures and a closing control letter, so you end up with something shaped like Y-1234567-A. The National Police generate it, and once it is yours it stays yours forever. Vanish for five winters and return for another summer; the same number is waiting for you.
How you carry it depends on your passport. EU, EEA and Swiss nationals collect it on a green slip — the certificado de registro, either A4 size or a wallet-sized green card. Everyone from outside the EU finds the number printed across their TIE residence card instead.
On Ibiza, your NIE unlocks the ability to:
- Sign a hospitality, retail or villa-management contract — or register as autónomo
- Open an account with a Spanish bank for wages and rent
- Take on a flat-share, a room or a long lease and put utilities in your name
- Draw a payslip and settle your taxes with Hacienda
- Launch a company, a bar or a market stall and act as its director
- Register a scooter or car and swap a foreign driving licence
- Enrol in social security and the island health system
- Take an inheritance or put your signature to anything before a notary
- Be considered for a mortgage or a business loan
- Place children in an island school or commit to a course
- Switch on broadband, a phone line and the rest of island life
Why an old formality turned into a marathon
Years back you wandered into a comisaría and strolled out with a NIE before lunch. That world is gone. On Ibiza the trickle of cita previa slots never keeps pace with the spring stampede of arriving workers, the EX-15 has to be flawless, the Modelo 790-012 fee must be settled before you turn up, and a single sloppy box sends the whole file back across the counter.
That gap is precisely where we live. We build the file, we hunt down the appointment, and we steer you through every counter so your NIE lands on the first run — not the third.
In Ibiza
From Sant Josep to Sant Josep, newcomers rely on us for the what the nie actually is in Ibiza. We prepare every document to the Oficina de Extranjería de Ibiza standard so nothing gets sent back.
